英語の発音力を鍛えるためにはとにかくたくさん発音することが必要です。そのための題材として長いセリフを練習することにしました。
関係ないけど僕は「デスノート」が大好きです！ 長いセリフといえばデスノートにまさるものはなし！ ということで、今回はその英訳を材料に発音の練習をします。とにかく1番長いセリフを選んでみました！
僕が選んだ1番長いセリフは、最終12巻クライマックスでの夜神月のセリフです。月がニアと警察に追いつめられ、新世界の神の必要性を訴える場面です。なんと、12ページにわたってず〜っと、月がしゃべっているんです。めくってもめくっても月がしゃべってる絵です。この長セリフの英訳を噛まずに言えるか録音したので、聞いてみてください。
6分7秒もかかってしまいました。疲れた、、というか結構噛みました。今ハリウッドでは『デスノート』実写版の製作準備が進められているというウワサです。完成したら、月役の俳優さんがこの長セリフを噛まずに言えているのかどうか、絶対チェックしに行くぞ！

That’s right I am Kira. So now, what? Are you going to kill me right here?
Listen. I’m Kira. And,,,the God of this new world.
In this world, I am the law and I am the one maintaining order. That is the truth. Now I am the justice. The world’s only hope. Are you going to kill me? Is that really the right thing to do?
Capturing Kira. That may have been the just thing to do in the past. But now, it’s obviously evil. The mentality of the world has changed. Are you sure you want to capture Kira just for your own satisfaction?
It’s been six years since Kira appeared. War is a thing of the past. Most of the worst criminals have died, and the world’s crime rate has gone down by 70 percent. But,,, this world is still rotten. There are too many rotten people, so we must get rid of them.
Humans have the right to pursue happiness and be happy. But because of a handful of rotten people, that right is easily snuffed. This is no accident. It is inevitable as long as those rotten people are alive.
From the moment I got hold of that notebook,, no, even before that,,, the world had fallen as far as it could fall, and humans had rotted as much as they could rot. It all boils down to those who interfere with people’s pursuit of happiness of those who did not. Those who are worthy of living and those who are not,, Evli only gives birth to evil. And if those wicked people commit sins and run wild,,, then the weak will learn to commit crimes, and even try to justify their actions in the end. The evil,,, the rotten people,,, must be done away with.
Evil people who are beyond saving have no choice but to die. But rotten people do not equal death. So I must cut deeply into the root evil that has shaped the world into what it is today.
Justice will be brought upon evil people. Justice will also be brought upon those who harm others. That is all you have to do to change people’s way of thinking.
They’ll start realizing the right way to live as a human being.
The right to be happy. That is something that everybody has equal claim to. It must be so. But that is not something you get by harming, deceiving or even killing other people. To pursue you happiness without getting in the way of others, while respecting the rights of others; that is the way humans should lead their lives.
Once the world changes, people begin to change. They become kinder.
But those who still commit sins even after that are failures.
Under ordinary circumstances, humans should have continued to evolve as the greatest creatres uopn this earth. But we were actually regressing.
A rotten world, politics, laws, education was there anybody around who had the ability to correct this world? But someone had to do it.
From the moment I got hold of the notebook, I knew that I had to do it. No,,, I knew I was the only one capable of doing it. I knew that killing people was a crime. But that was the only way to correct this world. And one day, people will accept that as being righteous.
I had to take the role of Kira and do it, This was a mission that was entrusted to me. I was chosen to make amends for this rotten world, and to create a truly safe and ideal world.
With this notebook,,, would anybody else have been able to do this? Come this far? And continue doing? Would anybody else have been able to use just one notebook and lead the world to the right path? There are only those stupid people of low caliber, who would have used it for personal interests and selfish motives.
I never thought of making any profits from this. I am not like those crooks who make money by forcing their ideals upon the weak. Those are the type of people who harm this world.
That’s right. Only I can do it,,, I am the only one who can create a new world, be on top of it, and guide it correctly,,,
Think about it. Do you want to return the world to the rotten way it used to be? Do you want the minds of the people, which have already strated to change, to change again? You know it as well as I do. There are those in this world who are better off dead. There’s nothing wrong about exterminating peats, so why is it wrong to kill people who are a peat to this world?
Do you really want to put an end to Kira here? Is that really for the good of this world? What good will it do to arrest me now? It’s only going to make YOU happy, right? Don’t you think you are being egotistical?
If you claim that this is to avenge L’s death,,, then that is an act of folly.
What you see before you is Kira,,, But also the god of this new world.

そうだ、僕がキラだ。ならばどうする、ここで殺すか？
いいか、僕はキラ。そして、新世界の神だ。
今の世界では僕（キラ）が法であり、僕（キラ）が秩序を守っている。これは事実。もはや僕（キラ）は正義。世界の人間の希望。殺すか？それで、本当にいいのか？
キラを捕まえる。それが過去において正義だった事もあったかもしれない。しかし、今は明らかにそれは悪。世界の意識は変わったんだ。キラを捕まえるという自己満足をとるのか？
キラが現れ、6年…。戦争はなくなり、凶悪犯罪者のほとんどが死に、世界の犯罪は7割減少した………………。しかし、まだ世の中は腐っている。腐った人間が多すぎる………。ならば、なくさなければならない。
人間は幸せになる事を追求し、幸せになる権利がある。しかし、一部の腐った者の為に、不意に いとも簡単にそれが途絶える。…事故じゃない。腐った人間が生きている事による必然。
僕がノートを手にした時、いや、その前から…、世の中は堕ちる所まで堕ち、人間は腐る所まで腐っていった。突き詰めれば、人が幸せになるのに害のある者か、ない者か…、生きるに値する者か、しない者か…。悪は悪しか産まない。意地の悪い人間が悪事を行い、世にはびこるならば、弱い人間はそれを習い、自分も腐っていき、いつかはそれが正しいと自分を正当化する。悪は…腐った者は…なくすしかない。
始めから救いのない様な悪には死しかないだろう。しかし、腐った人間＝死ではない。よって、こういう世の中を創ってきた悪の根源からメスを入れていく。
悪い人間は裁かれる………。人に害を与える人間も裁かれる。それだけで人間の意識は変わってくる。人として正しい生き方に気付き始める。
幸せになる権利、それは皆に平等にある。いや、なくてはならない。それは、他の人間を攻撃したり、陥れたり、ましてや殺す事で得るものではない。互いの幸せを邪魔することなく、互いの権利を尊重し、個々の幸せを求めていくのが人間同士のあるべき姿。
世の中が変わってくれば人間も変わってくる………………………。優しくなれる………。
それでも変わらず悪事をはたらく者は、人間失格。
本来、人間は地球上で一番優れた生物として進化をしていかなければならない。…だが、退化していたんだ…。
腐った世の中…政治…司法…教育…世の中を正していける者がいたか？しかし、誰かがやらなければならない。
ノートを手にした時思った。僕がやるしかない。いや…僕にしかできない！人を殺すのが犯罪なんて事はわかっている。しかし、もうそれでしか正せない。いつかそれは認められ、正義の行いとなる。
僕がキラとしてやるしかない。これは僕に与えられた使命。自分はこの腐った世の中を革め、真の平和・理想の世界を創生する為、選ばれた人間。
このノートで…他の者にできたか？ここまでやれたか？この先できるか？ノートひとつで世界を…人間を正しい方向へ導けるか？ 私利私欲の為にしか使えない、自分の為にしか使えない、馬鹿な器の小さな人間しかいないじゃないか！
僕は自分の利益など一度も考えた事はない！弱者に自分の思想を植えつけ、金儲けをしている悪党とは全く違う！そういう悪党こそ世の中の敵なんだ！
そうさ、僕にしかできない…新世界を創れるのは……………その頂点に立ち、常に正しく導けるのは僕しかいない…。
考えろ。また腐った世の中に戻していいのか？ 変わりつつある人々の意識を戻していいのか？おまえにだってわかっているはずだ。人間には明らかに死んだ方がいい人間がいる。害虫は殺せるのに、何故害のある人間を殺すのを悪とする？
ここでキラを潰していいのか？ それが本当に世の為か？ ここで僕（キラ）を捕まえてどうなる？おまえが嬉しいだけじゃないのか？ それはおまえのエゴでしかないんじゃないか？
Lの仇というならば、それこそ最も愚かな行為だ。
おまえが今、目の前にしているのはキラだが、新世界の神だ。
